Test Lofts Confirmed & Confirmed Pairings for 2018

We have been busy planning for the coming breeding season. Alterations have been made to the loft and we have added another 6 pair section replacing 2 individual sections which has enabled us to accommodate 15 pairs in total in the loft. We are ahead of schedule as we have all birds paired up and we are super excited as we have some outstanding pairs for the coming season.

I am pleased to confirm our two test lofts from last year, Mr and Mrs A.Winder and Moulds & Slatter have agreed to continue in testing our birds. I am also very pleased to announce that this season we will also have G.Thomas & Son who fly in the South West Glamorgan Federation joining us in the test scheme. These fanciers are previous National winners so I am sure they will give the birds a firm test. These 3 lofts will have youngsters from every pair in our loft free of charge and all we request is feedback week on week as to how they do. The test lofts are key to our breeding programme here at Rasbull Lofts. We have invested heavily, and it would have been very easy to sell the youngsters these birds have bred. Yes, some of the youngsters may have gone on to perform very well but we have resisted selling hardly any despite tens of emails as we want to ensure the birds we sell are more than capable of doing well for their owners and to do this we need to have them tested first.

We have 17 youngsters in 3 OLR's  this year, Derby Arona, (5), Atlantic Masters (4) and the Gran Canaria OLR (8) which are due to begin training at the end of November. Details of our entries were posted on here a few posts ago. We will keep everyone updated as to how they get on when the training begins. Results for training will be displayed on our Facebook page :- https://www.facebook.com/groups/195277137565620/

Our confirmed pairings for 2018 are as follows:-

These results bode well for the future of our breeding loft and test loft scheme. Work doesn't stop here though as we are already planning our breeding pairs for next year which we hope will produce even better performances and we hope to confirm news of a new test loft joining our scheme later in the year.

Work is also underway in altering the loft which we believe will enable us to move forward again next year. More news on this when it is complete.

I would like to say a big thank you to Mr & Mrs A.Winder and Moulds and Slatter for keeping us updated throughout the season and giving these youngsters the best chance to obtain decent results.

Defeat is not an option!

1st Federation and 12th Federation for two test lofts!

Wow......5 races into our test loft scheme and we have received news that a Grandchild from our No.1 stock cock Rasbull Semtex has won 1st Club, 1st Federation from 2,834 birds. Huge congratulations to Mr and Mrs A.Winder who topped the Rhondda Valley Federation.

The Sire of the winner is Rasbull 27 who is a direct son from Rasbull Semtex, 4th Open, Welsh Jubilee Race, 500 miles, when paired to Rasbull Aquaflight who finished 2nd Open, Yearling Somerset One Loft Race 2013 from 389 miles, winning £6,000 before being purchased by Rasbull Lofts.

The Dam of the winner is Rasbull Kulpa 699, who was purchased from S & P Kulpa from one of their top breeding pairs. This pigeon is from only her third nest with us. She is a full sister to 6 x 1st Club, 5 x 2nd Club, 4 x 1st Federation, 4 x 2nd Federation, 2 x 4th Federation, 2 x 5th Federation, plus many others.

A Brother to the 1st Federation pigeon finished 3rd Club, 125 birds  for Mr & Mrs A.Winder in the previous weeks race, so this pairing has started off well in their breeding careers!

In addition to that success, we can also confirm that Moulds and Slatter finished 9th Club, 12th Federation, 2,834 birds with a pigeon out of Rasbull Kulpa 700 when paired to Rasbull Nefertiti.

The Sire is Rasbull Kulpa 700 and is the nestmate to Rasbull Kulpa 699 who bred our 1st Federation winner mentioned above, so this looks like a very promising pair given they are also full Brother and Sister to 4 x 1st Federation winners plus 4 x 2nd Federation!

The Dam is Rasbull Nefertiti who is a Koen Van Roy pigeon and Daughter of his No.1 breeding cock 'Lucky 29'. Rasbull Nefertiti is Half Sister to 'Zwarte Olympiad' 1st Olympiad Ace Bird Nitra Cat A 2013, 1st Provincial Ace Bird Middle Distance KDBD 2012. 3rd National Ace Bird Middle Distance KBDB 2012. She is also Half Sister to 'Linda' 27 x 1st, 6th National Ace Bird Middle Distance KBDB 2015. Olympiad Pigeon Brussels 2017 Cat A.

Rasbull Nefertiti bred our 2nd Welsh, 32nd Open in the Derby Arona 1st Hotspot last year against 1,579 birds so again a very promising start to her breeding career here at Rasbull Lofts.

This is great news and shows that the money we have invested is already starting to produce outstanding results in a very strong Federation. We began this specialist breeding loft in 2016 with the intention of breeding pigeons capable of performances like this but even we are surprised at how quickly success has been achieved.

Van Persie also bred Lazy a 2 x 1st Federation winner!

Dam of the youngster is a daughter of Full Set Homoform Bird of the Year 2013 16 x 1st, when paired to Pink Eyes 9 x 1st!

Rasbull Chief is Half Brother to Van Persie who I am sure will produce the goods here at Rasbull Lofts.

Quote from Tony and Lee Painter:

I’ve been going back through my records and I can’t see any occasion where we’ve offered a YB for sale like this.
So confident are we of the bloodlines that this pigeon possesses that we’ll make the buyer a cast iron offer in writing right here right now. When you receive this YB if at any point in the 28 days after he’s at your loft if he fails to please you then you can return him to us and you can personally select ANY OTHER YOUNGSTER that’s in our YB aviary of YOUR CHOICE irrespective of how it is bred!

Great start for our test loft youngsters

We have had a great start to our test loft programme with 2 of our test lofts achieving very good performances with our birds in only the 2nd young bird race of the season.

  • Mr and Mrs A.Winder finished 3rd club, 10th Federation from 67 miles against 3,411 birds also winning £150 in the Penywaun Breeder Buyer Scheme.

  • Steve Moulds flying as Moulds and Slatter also finished 2nd club, 21st Federation from 71 miles against 3,411 birds

We are very pleased with these performances so early into our test loft scheme. The two birds are both Grandchildren to our No.1 stock cock Rasbull Semtex and in fact are brother and sister. The sire of both these birds is Rasbull Ace Combine, bred by Doldersum & Son, Holland. The dam is Rasbull 01 who raced in Ireland for Eamon Wright before we brought her back over to go into our stock loft. She is bred from Rasbull Semtex, 4th Open, Welsh Jubilee Race, 500 miles, when paired to Rasbull Aquaflight who finished 2nd Open, Yearling Somerset One Loft Race 2013 from 389 miles, winning £6,000 before being purchased by Rasbull Lofts.

We are very hopeful the birds placed with our test lofts with continue to produce performances of this standard and we look forward to bringing you news of these.

This is the Federation result with the Rasbull youngsters highlighted in the red boxes.

Another batch gone to test loft

We were going to sell a round but at the last minute I changed my mind and decided to put another 12 in our test of Mr & Mrs A.Winder. We have kept 3 nest mates of the ones sent to Alan and these will form part of our entries to the Derby Arona. I delivered the birds to Alan today. I had the pleasure of seeing how the birds he has had from us so far have developed since they arrived with him. He has 5 in his race team and 14 in his second round team. He is being slammed by the hawk and 3 have been killed in the later breds which is a shame. These 12 will supplement this second team and 25 will be a nice number to work with. Hopefully these can catch the comeback races this season which will set them up nicely for next year. Breeding is coming to end now at the lofts with a handful still on eggs which will be hatched out and the youngsters will go to the Derby Arona race. I am undecided as to how many to send as yet so we will have to see what happens with that.

Sunday 2 July 2017

17 youngsters gone to Mr & Mrs A.Winder

We had Alan Winder visit this afternoon to collect his round of 17 youngsters. Hopefully these birds can produce the goods for him. Alan now has quite a team of our birds with 28 currently in his loft.

We have our next round hatching out at present and these will either be sold (first ones of the year) or will be retained for One Loft entries. I will confirm any available when dates and numbers have been confirmed.

We plan to be sending to two One Loft races this year with five entries going to the Derby Arona and eight entries going to Atlantic Masters.

I am now looking forward to the coming young bird season to see how the birds we have sent out to test lofts perform. Hopefully there are some winners amongst them. :-)

Saturday 10 June 2017

Next Couple of Months

We have the birds all sitting youngsters at present. Our hatch rate this year has been fantastic with a near 97% rate. We have 17 currently in the nest from a possible 18. 1 egg was clear. Most of these birds will be going to Mr & Mrs Winder who I believe will get them into the comeback races this year.

I will be selling a full round which I have just advertised on Facebook and these will be the only ones for sale this year. There will be around 18 youngsters for sale from each of my stock pairs. These birds have cost us thousands to assemble with the very best obtained from Koen Van Roy (De Rauw Sablons) and Jacob Poortvliet.

We have birds at 3 test lofts and I will be watching closely to see how these youngsters get on. With the information I obtain from these I will then be sending a team to Tenerife for the Derby Arona One Loft Race which we really enjoyed last year in our first attempt.

Saturday 6 May 2017

Breeding Update

The 2 youngsters won by Clive Sewell in our competition from his pick of the loft have been delivered free of charge to him. Hopefully they go on to do very well for him.

We have also bred Steve Moulds 11 youngsters to test out for us. That is the 3rd test loft we will have birds in this year. Hopefully we can hear some positive news coming back from these later in the season.

We have split and re-paired the birds with new mates, we have 9 pairs currently paired up and we will be expecting eggs in the next 8-10 days. We have some very exciting pairs matched up so looking forward to the birds laying.

There is an awful virus doing the rounds at the moment and lots of fanciers reporting birds dying within 24 hours of catching it. Frightening stuff and so glad in that respect we no longer race ourselves as at least our birds don't come into contact with other birds. Hopefully the lads who have had this illness can recover in time for racing. I am hearing though some fanciers have lost up to 30 birds from their team!

Will update with any other developments in the future.

Sunday 12 March 2017

Loft Update

Sadly Rasbull Bob has failed to return from the 2nd Hotspot in Derby Arona. He still got further than 2,700 birds and with just 270 odd birds left I am confident we can improve on this years result and will be keen to give it another try come December.

Today we dropped off 11 youngsters to our second test loft for the coming season, Mr and Mrs Winder. Hopefully Alan can get the birds performing and I will keen to know the feedback on how they get on. Tenny Tipper has already received 8 youngsters to test out and we have a further round about to hatch out now which will be going to Steve Moulds.

Great Result!

Extremely tough race in the Derby Arona for the 1st Hotspot from Gran Canaria. 1,579 birds were entered and I am pleased to say Rasbull Bob was one of only 148 birds on the day to return to the loft claiming 2nd Wales, 32nd Open in the process! This is a fantastic result for us and hopefully will put us in a fantastic position going in to the remaining races. 1,431 birds have failed to arrive at nightfall and our other entry Rasbull Jeff is amongst them. Hopefully more will work in tomorrow and fingers crossed Rasbull Jeff will be among them. This is another good performance from a son/daughter of Rasbull Semtex our No.1 breeding cock.

Derby Arona Training Update

Update on our 3 entries that have been entered into the Derby Arona One Loft Race!

3,059 birds were sent to the first training toss and for today's 7th training toss there were 2,709 basketed with 2,514 showing on the clock as things stand. So potentially 500 or so birds dropped in the first 7 training tosses! We are pleased to announce that after 7 training tosses all 3 of our entries remain in the loft.

The birds have been very steady to date mainly arriving with the main batch and in no hurry to trap but no concerns at present. You cant win the event in these early races but you can rule yourself out so its important to just get some time on the wing and arrive with the main batch and stay out of trouble.

Our leading contender in the Ace Bird standing is 'Rasbull Bob' who is direct from our No.1 stock cock 'Rasbull Semtex' when paired to 'Rasbull Nefertiti'. He took over as our leading bird in the 6th Training toss. He started very slowly and didn't like the traps but he appears to be improving as the time is going on. His positions have been:-

1st Training - 987th
2nd Training - 2095th
3rd Training - 2005th
4th Training - 1800th
5th Training - 706th
6th Training - 465th
7th Training - 629th

Rasbull Bob currently standing in 836th Ace Bird Overall (3,059 Entries) and 38th Ace Welsh Bird (135 Entries)

Hopefully our 3 entries can keep improving now we are nearing the sea races and the hot spots!
