Breeding Underway

It has been a very quiet few months at Rasbull Lofts. However, we are now in full swing and preparations for breeding are well underway. We are slightly behind where we were hoping to be at this stage but we will soon catch up.

We have made some alterations to the loft which will allow the birds more access to the aviary which will be a positive come the nicer weather.

We currently have 14 pairs in the loft. We have been updating the stock bird section of the website with all the details and this can be viewed by visiting www.Rasbull-lofts.co.uk/stock%20birds.html . The pedigrees of all birds on our stock page can be viewed in full.

I am confident as we enter 2019 breeding season with the knowledge from previous seasons we are doing so with our strongest pairings yet in our breeding programme.

Our test loft programme now heads into its third year and we have team of 21 birds with Mr and Mrs Winder, 9 birds with G.Thomas & Son and 2 or 3 with Moulds and Slatter ready for the old bird season.

Joining our test loft programme for the 2019 young bird season will be N.Bright & Son, Sheldon and Stone and also Mr and Mrs Carey & Tipper. We are confident these three lofts joining our programme which already consists of Mr and Mrs Winder, Moulds and Slatter and G.Thomas and Son we should have our young birds fully tested once again.

We had an outstanding year last year with 4 x 1st Club winners and 20 Federation cards but the highlight without a doubt was the 1st Club, 3rd Federation, 2nd Section, 4th National, 1,976 birds from 263 miles result Mr and Mrs Winder achieved with a Granddaughter of Rasbull Semtex. She is now back at our breeding loft for the coming breeding season and her pedigree can be found at www.Rasbull-lofts.co.uk/Rasbull%20Dick's%2049er.html

We have 3 entries in the Derby Arona Race which starts in the next week. Again, we have a strong team in Tenerife who I am sure will do the loft proud. We will be looking to improve on our performance last year of 1st Welsh, 1st UK, 12th International Ace Bird King of the Atlantic Grand Averages and 1st Welsh, 1st UK, 26th International King of the Sprint Grand Averages. The pictures of our three entries are below. We look forward to updating you on their performances throughout the series.

Derby Arona Entries

The main reason we operate a breeding loft here at Rasbull Lofts is to specialise in One Loft racing. We use our test loft programme to gauge the breeding potential of birds at our lofts with the intention of entering One Loft races. We have used the feedback from last year, the One Loft races we entered last winter and of course this years performances to select our pairings that hopefully will produce a quality team to send to over to Tenerife and the Derby Arona One Loft Race.

3 x 1st in two weeks and test loft confirmation!

This season has been unbelievable and continues to get better and better! We are super pleased to announce we have had three Club winners in the last two weeks reported by our test lofts of Mr and Mrs Winder and G.Thomas & Son!

Last week Mr and Mrs Winder reported one of our test loft birds finished 1st Club, 147 birds, 8th Section Fed, 1,303 birds. This hen is yet another Granddaughter to Rasbull Semtex. She is half sister to the Federation winner we bred last season for Mr and Mrs Winder. The sire of this pigeon is Rasbull 27 who is a full brother to our No.1 hen Rasbull 01, their Sire is the unbelievable Rasbull Semtex! The dam of the winner is Rasbull Ragnar from Koen Van Roy.

Mr and Mrs Winder also clocked one of ours to finish 4th Club, 137 birds. This same pigeon was confirmed 3rd Club, 5th Federation, 2,861 birds the previous week. Another outstanding result! This cock is out of Rasbull Rameses, direct Koen Van Roy when paired to Rasbull Kulpa 950 who is sister to 5 x 1st Federation winners. Two very good performances in the last couple of weeks for this cock so hopefully he can keep improving.

Today, Mr and Mrs Winder have confirmed the same pigeon who was first Club last week has come 1st Club, 181 birds again this week and hopefully will be scoring in the Federation when result is published! Outstanding achievement for this young pigeon! Rasbull 27's breeding record now stands at 4 x 1st, 2 x 2nd, 4 x 3rd, 2 x 4th, 2 x 5th, 6th Club, 1st, 21st, 22nd and 25th Federation, 8th Section Federation, 33rd, 43rd, 45th and 83rd National.

Mr and Mrs Winder are having a fantastic season so huge congratulations to them as they have the birds in top condition and have been a force all year in their Club, Federation and National.

Another of our test lofts G.Thomas and Son then reported they clocked a son out of Rasbull Chief x Rasbull 01 to finish 1st Club, 22nd Federation, 1,347 birds. An absolutely fabulous result! This cock has already been 6th Club, 3rd Club, 6th Federation and 14th Club, 38th Federation in his first 4 races. He is the first pigeon bred from Rasbull Chief, who we purchased from AL Painter direct from his Golden Cock. The Dam is our No.1 stock hen and is a daughter of our No.1 cock Rasbull Semtex. Her breeding record now stands at 2 x 1st, 3 x 2nd, 2 x 3rd, 4th and 6th Club, 3rd, 6th, 7th, 10th, 21st, 22nd, 24th, 38th Federation and 4th and 20th National. We retained the winner nestmate for stock purposes when he was weaned off so we look forward to pairing him up for the coming season. We have also retained another 4 from this pairing and they too will be added to our breeding programme the coming season. Huge congratulations and thanks goes to G.Thomas and Son for achieving a fantastic result and getting the very best our of our pigeons.

To have 2 winners on the same weekend is hugely satisfying and proves our breeding programme is working as our results are improving all the time and to follow that up with another 1st Club this week proves our birds can now compete wherever they go.

Wow, a great couple of weeks for Rasbull pigeons and our record is improving all the time as the season hots up heading into the National races!

Our young bird season results now stands at:-

4 x 1st, 2nd, 5 x 3rd, 4th, 5th, 2 x 6th Club
2 x 5th, 6th, 8th, 17th, 19th, 22nd, 38th, 39th Federation

We have taken the decision to extend our test loft programme for the coming season and advertised on our Facebook page for anyone interested in becoming a test loft for Rasbull pigeons. We currently have 3 official lofts flying our birds this season with N.Bright & Son joining for next year. We have been inundated with requests and within 24 hrs we had over 100 offers from fanciers from all parts of the UK.

I am now in position to announce that the loft selected to join our test loft programme for next season are Sheldon and Stone from the Abercwmboi Club in the Rhondda Valley Federation. We are also going back to where it all began for ourselves 2 years ago and D.Carey and Tenny Tipper will also be included in our test loft programme for the coming season.

Update with more positions achieved.

The season continues to produce decent performances for Rasbull Loft pigeons. Following the first two races of the season which we have already reported in our last post we have the following positions to report that Rasbull pigeons have achieved since.

Firstly, Mr and Mrs Winder clocked one to finish 2nd Club, 5th Federation from 3,069 birds. This was bred from Rasbull Kulpa 700 x Rasbull Boudicea. (See stock page for full details)

The same weekend G.Thomas & Son reported that one of ours had finished 3rd Club. 39th Federation from 1,649 birds. This pigeon was bred out of Rasbull  Rameses x Rasbull Kulpa 950) They also clocked another that finished 5th Club. (Rasbull Super-B x Rasbull Aphrodite)

Wayne Thomas then reported another Grandchild had finished 3rd Club from 88 birds. (Grandson to Rasbull Nemesis)

This week Mr and Mrs Winder reported that one of ours arrived with 2 others to finish 3rd Club. This pigeon was bred from (Rasbull Rameses x Rasbull Kulpa 950)

Our record for the young bird season to date now stands at:-
1st, 2nd, 5 x 3rd, 5th, 6th Club
5th, 6th, 8th, 17th, 19th, 39th Federation

So a great young bird season so far with positions being achieved all over the place which is very pleasing.

We have been spending some time planning for next season and have been sorting out our pairings that we will take into next season. We hope to bring some news regarding a couple of additions to our breeding team in the very near future.

Another 6 youngsters have gone out to our test loft of  Mr and Mrs Winder. In addition to this another 5 have gone to G.Thomas and Son.

We have 14 youngsters in the loft that have just been weaned off and 8 of these will hopefully be going to the Derby Arona OLR. The other 6 will be retained for our own stock purposes.

We have also been busy making changes to the loft and have altered the one section so it is now able to accommodate 12 pairs who will have access to the aviary. The pictures below show how the main breeding loft now looks in readiness for the new breeding season. In addition to this we have a section that can house another 6 pairs so we will have capacity for 18 pairs next year which help ensure our test lofts get a full round each to race for us.

We will keep you updated through the rest of the young bird season where we hope to bring news of further performances that our test lofts have achieved.

2 young bird races and more positions reported

Two races into the young bird season and we have had confirmation that our birds are in the prizes once again for two different fanciers.

Firstly confirmation our test loft bird last week for Moulds and Slatter finished 1st Club, 8th Federation from 816 birds. This pigeon was from Rasbull Nemesis, direct son of Lucky 29, Koen Van Roy's No.1 Breeding cock when paired to Rasbull Valhalla, direct daughter of Georgio, Jacob Poortvliet's No.1 breeding cock. This hen also bred our 1st UK, 12th International King of the Atlantic Ace Bird in the Derby Arona OLR last year!

Today we had it reported that our test of G.Thomas and Son clocked one of our birds from Rasbull Chief when paired to Rasbull 01. This young cock has followed up last weeks 6th club, to finish 3rd club 89 birds, 6th Federation. Very good start to Rasbull Chief's breeding career at Rasbull Lofts as he is a direct son from AL Painter's Golden Cock.

We also had birds finish 17th and 19th Federation in the same race. These are from Rasbull Zeus, who is the sire of our 1st UK, 12th International King of the Atlantic Ace Bird in last years Derby Arona when paired to Rasbull Nefertiti who is a direct daughter of Koen Van Roy's No.1 stock cock Lucky 29. Last year she bred pigeons to finish 12th Federation and also 63rd National.

The pigeon who finished 19th Federation is from Rasbull Rameses who is growing a reputation here for breeding decent pigeons. He is another Koen Van Roy pigeon and is the same way bred as the mother to Olympic Linda, 28 x 1st. He has already bred 2 x 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th Club, 19th Federation, 70th and 81st National as well as 5th and 35th International is OLR Hotspots. The Dam of the 19th Federation pigeon is Rasbull Kulpa 950. She is Sister to 5 x 1st Federation winners for S&P Kulpa. She is a full sister to the hen that bred our Federation winner last year. Kulpa 950 is also the mother to our 26th International Final race from Tan Tan in the Derby Maspalomas OLR last year.

We have only sold two young birds in the last 18 months and these went to Wayne Thomas. He kept them for breeding purposes and he reported today that one of the youngsters from them finished 3rd club, 48 birds. This pigeon is a Grandchild out of Rasbull Nemesis when paired to Rasbull Odin. Both direct from Koen Van Roy's De Rauw Sablon strain.

Great season continues!

Pleased to report on the last 2 races for our test lofts. Firstly, in an extremely tough race from Duffel with the Welsh East National on the 13th June there were huge numbers of pigeons who failed to make it home. So it was great to hear that Moulds and Slatter had clocked one of our yearlings to finish 3rd Club. 21st Section, 70th National, 1,021 birds from 344 miles.

The sire of this pigeon is Rasbull Rameses who is a De Rauw Sablon direct from Koen Van Roy. He has now bred 2 x 2nd, 3rd & 6th Club as well as 70th & 81st National and 5th and 35th Hotspots in OLR's. He is a full brother to Lucky Daisy who is the dam of Olympiad pigeon Linda, 27 x 1st.

On 18th June, Mr and Mrs Winder then clocked two of our yearlings to finish 3rd and 6th Club from 88 miles.

The sire of the 3rd Club is none other than Rasbull Semtex our No.1 breeding cock. His breeding record continues to grow and he is now Sire & G.Sire to 3 x 1st, 6 x 2nd, 5 x 3rd, 3 x 4th, 3 x 5th, 2 x 6th Club including 1st, 3rd, 7th, 10th, 21st, 24th, 25th Federation, 4th, 20th, 33rd, 43rd, 45th, 83rd National WSENFC. The dam of this pigeon is Rasbull Aphrodite, a direct daughter of Georgio, Jacob Poortvliet's No.1 breeding cock.

The sire of the 6th club is Rasbull Rameses who has been mentioned above when paired to Rasbull Boudicea who is a direct daughter of Blue Thunder from Jacob Poortvliet. Blue Thunder won 1st International from 16,572 birds. Rasbull Boudicea is the last daughter sold to the UK as Blue Thunder has since been sold to China.

We are now 8 races into the season and our test loft birds have scored in each of these races which is fantastic performance and have achieved the following:-

15 Pigeons / 2 Test Lofts / 8 Races

1st, 2 x 2nd, 2 x 3rd, 2 x 4th, 3 x 5th, 2 x 6th Club

This is by far the best result we have had since starting our breeding program in 2017 and I am absolutely over the moon!

This pigeon who finished 4th National is a Granddaughter of our No.1 breeding cock Rasbull Semtex who is now Sire/G.Sire to 3 x 1st, 6 x 2nd, 4 x 3rd, 3 x 4th, 3 x 5th, 2 x 6th Club, 1st, 3rd, 7th, 10th, 21st, 24th, 25th Federation, 4th, 20th, 33rd, 43rd, 45th, 83rd National. Sire of the 4th National is Rasbull Super B, Doldersum & Son out of their No.1 Breeding hen, Superbreedster 005. Dam of the 4th National is Rasbull 01, who is a daughter of Rasbull Semtex who is now responsible for 1st, 3 x 2nd, 3rd, 4th, Club, 3rd, 7th, 10th, 21st, 24th Federation, 4th and 20th National.

The 4th National pigeon only had one race as a young bird being bred in late May, and has had just 6 races this year winning, 2nd Club, 7th Federation 2,485 birds, and 4th Club, 198 birds prior to her big performance!

The previous week Moulds and Slatter finished 5th Club, 20th National, 199 miles, 2,647 birds with a half sister to this weeks 4th National! Again this is Granddaughter of Rasbull Semtex. The Dam of this pigeon is also Rasbull 01, who is fast becoming a breeding star at Rasbull Lofts. This line of pigeons does seem to produce birds that excel at the middle distance races.

In two Nationals this season, we have now had 4th National, 20th National, 33rd National, 43rd National, 45th National, 83rd National! This is some achievement considering the team consists of 15 birds in total between Mr and Mrs Winder and Moulds and Slatter.

In total this season, racing just 15 pigeons in our test lofts over the 6 races to date, our pigeons have achieved the following:-

1st, 2 x 2nd, 3rd, 2 x 4th, 3 x 5th, 6th Club, 3rd Federation, 7th Federation, 24th Federation, 25th Federation, 4th, 20th, 33rd, 43rd, 45th, 83rd National!

This follows last years results in our first racing season (young birds only) of 1st, 2nd, 2 x 3rd, 4th, 6th Club, 1st, 10th, 12th, 21st Fed and 1st Welsh, 1st UK, 12th International Ace Bird Derby Arona OLR, 5th Hotspot and 26th International 430km Final Race Derby Maspalomas OLR, 4th and 35th Hotspot Gran Canaria OLR.

A fantastic start to our breeding loft and more than we could ever have hoped for in less than 12 months! We will now look at the pairings that have produced these fantastic performances and weed out any than have under performed to hopefully improve on consistency and enable us to breed pigeons of this caliber on a regular basis.

I want to take this opportunity to thank both Mr and Mrs Winder and Moulds and Slatter for allowing our birds to be tested amongst their own teams and for providing the feedback on how our birds are performing on a weekly basis. Also I would like to thank Adam Thomas of G.Thomas & Son who will also be testing our young birds later this year.

The feedback is essential to ensure our breeding pigeons are capable of producing birds that can perform on the biggest levels.

Test Loft Update after 4 races - 2 x 2nds, 3rd, 2 x 4th, 5th and also 7th and 24th Fed!

We are 4 race into the season and our test loft birds have performed very well to date. We have had the following results from the 4 races up to 200 miles:-

In the first race Mr and Mrs Winder clocked a Grandchild of Rasbull Semtex to take 2nd Club, 7th Federation against 2,134 birds. The dam to this pigeon was Rasbull 01 when paired to Rasbull Super B.

In the second race Mr and Mrs Winder clocked another Grandchild to Rasbull Semtex to take 4th Club, 220 birds. The sire of this pigeon is Rasbull 27 when paired to Rasbull Kulpa 699 (The same pairing as the bird who won 1st Club, 1st Federation last year!)

In the third race Mr and Mrs Winder finished 4th Club, 192 birds again clocking the Grandchild of Rasbull Semtex who scored in the first race!

In the fourth race Mr and Mrs Winder finished 2nd, 3rd and 7th Club, 182 birds, all Grandchildren to Rasbull Semtex and all the same way bred as the Federation winner last year!

Also in the fourth race Moulds and Slater finished 5th Club, 24th Federation, 2,485 birds and this yet again is a Grandchild to Rasbull Semtex. The dam once again being Rasbull 01 when paired to Rasbull Ace Combine!

We are hoping to have some decent National positions from both our test lofts from the 4 race and will update as soon as the result has been published.

So a great start for our test loft birds scoring in each of the 4 races to date claiming 2 x 2nd Club, 3rd, 2 x 4th, 5th and 7th Club and also 7th and 24th Federation. What is more impressive all these birds are Grandchildren to our No.1 stock cock Rasbull Semtex!

Other news:-

Just to update our pigeon who finished 1st Welsh, 1st Uk, 12th King of the Atlantic, 26th King of the Sprint Averages in the Derby Arona sold on Pipa for 400 Euro! We hope she goes onto breed the new owner some very nice young birds.

Our pigeon Rasbull Angel who finished 24th International from Tan Tan in Final 2, 430km, in the Derby Maspalomas race will be coming up for auction soon.

In addition to this years youngsters that have already gone out to test lofts and breeder buyers, another 3 have now gone to breeder buyer lofts namely, Mr and Mrs Winder, C.Price (Abercwmboi), and Danny Jeffrey. 3 went to Moulds and Slater one of our test lofts.

We have a round in the nest at present and some of these will go to test lofts and some will be sold on auction on our facebook group page https://www.facebook.com/groups/195277137565620/

We will update on further results in the near future but the season has started off very well.

OLR & Breeding Update

Wow......where to start! So much has been happening lately in regards to the birds. We have now concluded the One Loft Races we entered back in October. We have had some fantastic results over the last 3 months and the it has been a great way to pass the long winter days following our birds.

Our proudest moment has to be finishing 1st Welsh, 1st UK, 26th International in the Grand Averages in Derby Arona (26 races) against the 2,413 birds that started the race. We also finished 1st Welsh, 1st UK, 12th International in the King of the Atlantic Ace Bird Average Hotspots & Final (5 races). These are fantastic results against some of the best fanciers in the world.

The pigeon is Rasbull 12 and he is bred from Rasbull Zeus when paired to Rasbull Valhalla. He is a double Grandchild of Georgio, Jacob Poortvliets No.1 breeding cock.

We had a whole host of top 30 finishes in training results in all 3 OLR's but in the Hotspot, Semi Final and Finals these are the results we managed to achieve including 2nd UK, 13th International Derby Arona, 5th International, 1st Hotspot Derby Maspalomas OLR and 35th International, 1st Hotspot, Gran Canaria OLR, 4th International Survival Race, Gran Canaria OLR & 58th International Semi Final Derby Maspalomas OLR, 53rd International Ace Bird, Derby Maspalomas:-

Breeding at the lofts is going very well. We have had 10 birds go to Mr & Mrs A.Winder around two weeks ago. Alan is one of our test lofts and now has an army of our birds. 15 early bred youngsters went earlier to G Thomas & Son and another batch will be heading to our final test loft of Moulds and Slater in the next few weeks.

We took 3 birds over to the Penywaun Breeder Buyer today and these were purchased by A.K Davies, Thomas Brothers & Radcliffe and Mr & Mrs A.Winder so hopefully these will perform well for the buyers and can get amongst the cash prizes!

2 birds have gone to Ireland to Micheal Toal who purchased them in a charity auction and another 6 will be heading to Republic of Ireland for Peter Dempsey who won them as part of a charity fundraiser we organised.

We are now starting to identify pigeons that are producing the goods for us and we have already moved on two birds that have failed to produce within the first year of being in the stock shed. We paid a lot of money for both birds but our breeding criteria means that they have had to go. Some might say this is too quick but I always go with my gut instinct and that told me to move on without these.

Racing starts in a 3-4 weeks and both Moulds and Slater and Mr & Mrs A.Winder have Rasbull pigeons in their race teams who will be competing and I look forward to seeing how they perform as yearlings. I handled the Fed winning pigeon we bred for Alan last year, when I called down today with his breeder buyer purchase and she looked in excellent condition, so hopefully she can keep performing.

Profiles of all our breeding pigeons can be found here, with their pedigrees displayed by clicking on the link under their photos.

Good luck to all for the coming season!

2018 - Breeding & OLR Update!

We have had a prompt start to this years breeding season having paired the birds up in November! The first round of 18 youngsters have been weaned off and 15 have today been dropped off with Adam from G.Thomas & Son (Multi National Winners) who have joined as one of our test lofts for the 2018 season. We have kept 2 back from the first round one from our No.1 cock Rasbull Semtex and one from Rasbull Chief. These two will be added to our breeding loft later in the year.

We have our 2nd rounders hatching out at present and these will also be going out to a test loft when weaned off.

We have had a fantastic start to the three One Loft Races we have entered this year. We sent 17 birds in total and at present we have all 17 still remaining. 4 x Atlantic Masters which have had 3 training tosses, 5 x Derby Arona who have had 8 training tosses and  8 x Gran Canaria OLR who have had 18 training tosses.

We have had some great positions already in the early training tosses and all the results of the daily training are being put on our Facebook page which can be found here:- Rasbull Lofts Specialist Breeding. We have had a large number of positions inside the top 100 to date in all 3 OLR's. Some of the early positions though have been as follows:-

Atlantic Masters - 14th International 1,674 birds (Rasbull Semtex x Rasbull Aphrodite)

Derby Arona - 1st UK, 22nd International 2,369 birds (Rasbull Semtex x Rasbull Aphrodite), 5th UK, 36th International 2,254 birds (Rasbull Semtex x Rasbull Aphrodite)

Gran Canaria - 3rd International 970 birds (Rasbull Kulpa700 x Rasbull Ragnar) & 9th International 970 birds (Rasbull Nemesis x Rasbull Odin), 17th International 990 birds (Rasbull Rameses x Rasbull Boudicea)

The pigeons from Rasbull Semtex x Rasbull Aphrodite who have had 3 results between them to date are nestmates! Hoping they can now continue to perform as the distances increase towards the Hotspot races.

Please keep checking our Facebook page and Twitter for the latest information as that is updated far more frequently than the website blog.
